Neurodiversity. Understanding Autism and UCLA
The concept of neurodiversity recognizes the fact that the human brain develops and processes information in different ways. This is not a disease, but a peculiarity of world perception. Public awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is gradually increasing in Armenia.
UPSU (ADHD). Myths and Reality
Children and adults with ADHD often show signs of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. For a diagnosis, these signs must be present for 6 months or more.
It is important to understand that ASD is not a learning disability. Their brains process information very quickly, which is why repetitive, monotonous tasks cause them frustration and boredom. For example, poor handwriting is often explained by the fact that ideas are born in the mind faster than the individual manages to put them on paper.
Autism Spectrum and Community Support
The right educational, rehabilitative and psychological support is vital for individuals with autism. Creating an inclusive environment helps them integrate into society. Centers and programs (for example, temporary crisis shelters) are already operating in Armenia, which support the transition to independent living of people with developmental disabilities and provide social adaptation.
